📍 Wat Phra Boromathat Sawi
In addition to its beautiful beaches, Southern Thailand is also home to stunning temples rich in history and legend. #WatPhraBoromathatSuwi is an ancient temple that has been a significant landmark for the district of Suwi. This sacred site is one of the four sacred relics of Southern Thailand, boasting a history of over 700 years, and it features an ancient museum that showcases its long history dating back to the Ayutthaya period.
The architectural style of “Phra Boromathat Suwi” resembles that of the Phra Boromathat Chedi in Nakhon Si Thammarat, believed to have been built during the Ayutthaya period. It has undergone several renovations, with a significant restoration occurring in 1916 when the stupa collapsed. Today, the chedi has a square base adorned with six pillars and decorated with statues of elephants lifting the stupa, with three niches on each side. Miniature chedis, modeled after the main chedi, are located at each of the four corners.
🔔 The stupa features an inverted bell shape and is topped with a lotus petal umbrella adorned with seven layers of umbrella spokes, arranged along the four sides of the terrace with approximately 105-110 spokes. Inside, it houses sacred relics. The shrine for Phra Seu Muang was originally a closed wooden structure that had fallen into disrepair. The Fine Arts Department collaborated with the temple to design and restore the entire building.
The #WatPhraBoromathatSuwi Museum is a treasure trove of historical information, open for students, scholars, and tourists to explore. The museum is divided into three rooms: 🖼 The first room displays ancient artifacts and recounts the history of Wat Phra Boromathat Suwi. 🖼 The second room features wax figures illustrating the lifestyles of the Chumphon people in ancient times. 🖼 The third room is dedicated to showcasing works and welcoming special guests. For those interested in Thai history and ancient artifacts, we highly recommend this museum. We assure you that everyone will leave with valuable knowledge!
