🌿 Sapan Village

Sapan, a land of rice fields nestled in the valley of Bo Kluea District, is a community surrounded by mountains, where two rivers, the Wha River and the Sapan River, converge. During the rainy season, especially in the rice planting period, the rice fields turn lush green 🌾. Within the village, there is the centuries-old Sapan Temple, which the locals respect and revere. Additionally, there is the Sapan Waterfall, a renowned attraction featuring three tiers of waterfalls that flow year-round, surrounded by lush and thriving forests 💦.

In Sapan Village, there are several other nearby attractions to explore 🌾. One must-visit spot is the Terraced Rice Fields at Ban Wern, which is particularly beautiful during the rainy season when the fields are vibrant and lush. This location is about 20 kilometers from Sapan Village.

🧂 The Bo Kluea Ancient Salt Well in Bo Kluea District is a small area famous for producing mountain salt, known as the “only mountain salt well in the world.” This method of salt production is over 800 years old and utilizes traditional boiling techniques. Salt production occurs year-round, except during the Buddhist Lent period. It’s a fascinating place to learn about the salt-making process, located about 10 kilometers from Sapan Village.

🌱 The Sajuk-Sakieng Tea Plantation, part of the Royal Initiative Project, is located to the east, adjacent to the Phu Khao Luang mountain range. The journey to this tea plantation can be challenging due to rough roads with many potholes, about 26 kilometers from Sapan Village.

Khun Nan National Park encompasses the forests of Doi Phu Ka and Pha Daeng, covering an area of approximately 153,982 rai (about 246.37 square kilometers). It is located around 3 kilometers from Sapan Village and offers stunning views, allowing you to see Sapan Village and its surroundings clearly.

If you’re looking for a peaceful retreat amid the breathtaking scenery of rice fields 🌾, I highly recommend visiting Sapan Village. For a spectacular view of Sapan from above, head to the Stop Time Viewpoint, located within the Stop Time Campground in front of Sapan Temple. The view from here is absolutely breathtaking!

🌿 Doi Phu Kha National Park

Doi Phu Ka is the source of several rivers, including the Nan River, the Pua River, and the Wa River. This area was once an ocean 🌊 before tectonic plates shifted and moved towards each other, causing the land to rise. The underground seawater evaporated, leaving behind mineral deposits like salt, which can be found in Bo Kluea District, along with the discovery of a 200-million-year-old marine shell cemetery 🐚.

Doi Phu Ka National Park covers an area of 1,065,000 rai (approximately 1,704 square kilometers), encompassing eight districts in Nan Province: Chalerm Phrakiat, Tha Wang Pha, Pua, Chiang Klang, Thung Chang, Bo Kluea, Santisuk, and Mae Charim 🌳. The forest within the national park consists of six types: moist evergreen forest, dry evergreen forest, mixed deciduous forest, deciduous dipterocarp forest, natural pine forest, and grassland.

🌳 This area is home to rare and nearly extinct plant species, including the Chomphu Phu Ka, which is a rare plant found only in Doi Phu Ka National Park. This large tree can grow up to 25 meters tall and blooms from January to early March. The moist evergreen forest is also the origin of the giant Tao Rang tree, a unique species of the national park.

🕊 Additionally, it is a habitat for rare endemic birds, including the Red-eyed Bulbul, Great Hornbill, and Indian Jungle Crow. The Doi Phu Ka mountain range consists of a complex of high peaks, forming part of the Himalayan foothills, with Doi Phu Ka being the highest peak in Nan Province at 1,980 meters above sea level. Doi Phu Ka National Park received an award for excellence in the Thai Tourism Industry Award in 2008, recognized as a natural tourist attraction in the northern region by the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) ✨.

🏕 For tourists looking to stay overnight, the park offers accommodation and camping areas at the park headquarters, as well as a stargazing area located 5 kilometers from the headquarters along the Pua-Bo Kluea Road. Both camping areas are equipped with restrooms for convenience.
