⛰ Sam Pan Bok, UbonRatchathani
The Unseen Attractions of Ubon: Sam Pan Bok, the stunning natural attraction known as Sam Pan Bok was formed by the erosive power of swirling waters that carved out over 3,000 pools or “boks” in the local dialect. This is where the name Sam Pan Bok comes from. The distinctive feature of Sam Phan Bok is the multitude of large and small holes created by the currents of the Mekong River. These rocky outcrops are submerged during the rainy season, roughly from mid-July to October, and become visible during the dry season, from November to June, revealing beautiful and unusual natural sculptures for us to explore.
Sam Phan Bok consists of sandstone formations located along the Mekong River banks in both Thailand and Laos, extending along the Phu Phan Mountain range. This group of rocks stretches along the river, forming a large sandbank that covers an area of over 10 square kilometers. Near the entrance to Sam Phan Bok, there’s a rock that resembles a dog’s head. According to one legend, a mythical serpent’s offspring living in the Mekong River wanted to dig a drainage channel to create another river and assigned a dog to guard the site during the excavation. Eventually, the dog died, turning into the rock shaped like a dog.
The stunning unseen beauty of Sam Phan Bok is considered a natural wonder. Each rock is uniquely eroded, with some forming large cavities that you can enter. The various pools resemble artistic sculptures, and you can’t miss taking a photo at the famous “Mickey Mouse Bok,” as well as enjoying the sunset 🌄. Besides the beauty of Sam Phan Bok, there are also interesting nearby attractions such as Saling Beach, Hong Beach, Lak Sila Lek, Pak Bong, and the Head Rock of Phan Yang, making it easy to continue your exploration of the area’s beauty.

⛰ Klong Hrud, Krabi
The public canal, known for its lush atmosphere and clear water, is referred to as #KlongNamSai. A concrete weir with a sloping design, known locally as ‘Hrud’ (meaning sloped in Southern Thai), has also become another name for this location. It has become a popular route for kayaking 🛶.
#KlongHrud is located in the Nong Thale sub-district of Krabi Town. This small freshwater canal resembles a peat swamp, filled with numerous trees. About ten years ago, a spillway was constructed in the middle of the canal to retain water for use during the dry season and to supply water for the municipal water system, addressing drought issues. This resulted in the upper part of the canal transforming from a small stream and swamp into a large water basin covering approximately 100 rai, with a depth of about 5 meters and a width of approximately 200 meters. Locals affectionately refer to it as “Klong Nong Thale.”
#KlongHrud, a small freshwater canal, originates from natural springs below the surface. The cool and peaceful atmosphere amidst the tranquil community forest 🍃 creates a serene environment. The water here is exceptionally clear, especially when sunlight reflects off it, showcasing an emerald, green hue as clear as crystal. In some spots, the sandy bottom is clearly visible, making it suitable for swimming 💦.
This area has become an #Ecotourism destination, developed by the Nong Thale Subdistrict Administration Organization, in collaboration with local leaders and residents, to cater to tourists who appreciate #Ecotourism. Kayaking upstream to explore the source of the Nong Thale canal allows visitors to admire various rock formations that resemble small hills rising above the water, beautifully arranged along the way.
