The Metro Forest Learning Center

Metro Forest Learning Center: A Green Oasis in the Heart of the City

The PTT Metro Forest Learning Center boasts an exceptional design that harmoniously combines architectural beauty with the diverse ecosystems on PTT’s expansive land, spanning over 12 acres. With the goal of “creating a forest for Bangkok residents,” the center incorporates insights from the One-Million-Rai Reforestation Project and employs Professor Akira Miyawaki’s method for forest creation to rejuvenate wasteland into a flourishing eco-forest. Functioning as a pivotal off-site conservation area, the center plays a key role in establishing Bangkok’s indigenous plant and ecosystem.

Activity

Point 1: The short film room presents the story of the “Wooden Family,” who instill an awareness of nature from the urban forest and are inspired to pass on the attitude of transforming the world into a greener place.
Point 2: The rammed earth wall and the seed exhibition are constructed using natural earth materials as thermal insulation for the building. This design adheres to the outstanding energy conservation building standards according to LEED, certified by the Green Building Council of the United States. It is a popular spot for photography, featuring various types of tree seeds displayed on the wall along the walkway into the building. For example, the seeds of riparian plants, which are notably small and lightweight; edible seeds from food and medicinal plants; deciduous tree seeds from plants that shed leaves during the dry season; local Thai tree seeds worthy of conservation, which are native or first discovered in Thailand, such as the Makha tree; economic tree seeds like teak and rosewood; and perennial tree seeds with beautiful flowers, such as the golden shower tree and the Indian laburnum; as well as seeds from brackish water plants, which can thrive in saline environments.
Point 3: The exhibition room is divided into 3 sections, which are
