For over 45 years, the Umbrella Making Centre has upheld the traditional craft of producing handmade umbrellas, famously known as the “Bo Sang Umbrella.” Skilled artisans from eight villages in San Kamphaeng and Doi Saket districts of Chiang Mai province contribute to this enduring legacy. The initiative is dedicated to preserving Thai cultural heritage, enhancing community life, and sustaining local resources. Recognized for its commitment to quality and standards, the center proudly holds the geographical indication (GI) mark “Bo Sang Umbrella,” bestowed by the Department of Intellectual Property. Additionally, the umbrella-making process at the center has received official acknowledgment as part of the cultural network by the Chiang Mai Provincial Cultural Office. The center invites individuals to explore and learn about umbrella making, free of charge.
