Thailand is located in Southeast Asia right around the center of the Indochinese Penninsula. It can be found between latitudes 5 to 21 degrees north and longitudes 97 to 106 degrees east in the heart of Southeast Asia, making it the “Gateway to Southeast Asia and the Greater Mae Khong sub-Region” Thailand is kingdom blessed with diverse topography. - The northern region is defined by green, fertile winding mountains where several of the country’s important sources of water originate. - In the northeast, most of the terrain consists of hills and plateaus which tilts down towards the Mae Khong River. This region is also the country’s largest in terms of land area. - The central region consists mainly of lowland packed with layers of sediment. Because of its abundant water supply, it is considered to be the most fertile area in country. - Like the north, the west is largely made up of rolling hills and mountains with some flat plains scattered in beteween. - Towards the north of the Eastern region, this area comprises of lowlands with alternating mountainous terrain and flat plains in the central part. The southern section is a coast outlining the sea. - Both sides of the southern region is bordered by the sea. The topography is made up of high plains with lower flat areas along the coastline. This part is also home to Songkhla Lake, the largest fresh water lake in the country.
